True to its commitment in providing quality education and excellence grounded on Gospel values, Liceo del Verbo Divino, Inc. (LVD) takes a step further in assessing student performance through the utilization of APSA’s Standards-Based Assessment (SBA).


In 2021, LVD, one of the leading Catholic Educational institutions in Eastern Visayas partnered with APSA in implementing the SBA. The SBA is the latest assessment technology that addresses the needs of schools for quality assessment that will identify what students should know or what students should be able to do at a certain year level. PHINMA Education, APSA Monitoring Student Proficiency for Future Success

To fulfill its mission of providing quality learning to underserved youth in Southeast Asia, PHINMA Education partnered with Asian Psychological Services and Assessment (APSA) to evaluate students’ mastery of skills and competencies required for their level. Beginning in 2015, APSA has been conducting Standards-Based Assessment (SBA) to PHINMA Education schools to measure students’ proficiency level against national and international standards. This year, APSA administered the tests to around 40,000 college freshmen across nine PHINMA Education schools.


“Through the data on learning outcomes, we are able to identify areas of strength, as well as areas for improvement, to address the learning gaps of students,” said PHINMA Education Analytics Chief Dr. Nigel N. Cabison. “These results empower us to better our strategies and customize learning systems according to our students' needs — making it more efficient and effective for them.”

A Time to Step-up: Math Teachers towards a Level of Excellence

The 10th Annual Math Circle of the Philippines Convention was successfully held last November 11-12, 2015 at the Hotel Jen, Manila, with the theme, “Towards Excellence: Strengthening Teachers’ Skills and Capabilities in Mathematics”. APSA President Dr. Clemeña talks on 21st Century Learners

At this time and age, many changes have occurred in our world, including technological advances that have shaped the course of our relentless thirst for knowledge. Many years ago, students relied on encyclopedias, almanacs, and everything they could find in the school library. Sheets of Manila paper were utilized in all ways possible for subject presentations. Teachers explained lessons with their entire prowess through writing and verbal explanations. Personal computers and the internet were not a big thing until the late 90’s. Powerpoint presentations were then introduced to replace writing on Manila paper, blackboard, or whiteboard. Google took charge of all the inquiries the world could ever have… And so on. Such transformation of the methods of acquiring information has greatly affected the educational setting, particularly the learning styles of students in every school around the globe.

Take the SUKEN Test and Get Math-Certified.

We are excited to let you know that the Mathematics Certification Institute of Japan has given us access to their mathematics certification program. We have also opened this opportunity to allow schools to certify their teachers at a certain kyu of mathematics proficiency. Part of APSA’s global vision is to have teachers in schools have a mathematics certification at a proficiency kyu that is recognized internationally.

The test is scheduled on November 25, 2023 at Tropical Gym, Southville International School and Colleges, Tropical Ave. cor Luxembourg St., BF International, Las Piñas City.
