Math Circle’s 5th Annual Convention Held
This year, the Math Circle of the
Philippines held its 5th Annual Convention in January 21-22, 2010 at the CSB
International Conference Center. Around seventy (70) Math teachers all over the
country participated in the said convention. Dr. Leticia Catris in her keynote
speech presented the Current Status of Math Education in the Philippines. This
was concurred by Dr. Rosemarievic Diaz, President of the Philippine Council for
Math Teacher Education in her discussion on Benchmarking with NCTM for Global
competitiveness. With the theme, Raising Math Standards through UBD, the
seminar- workshop focused on the use of UBD in raising the standards in
Mathematics through effective formulation of enduring and essential questions
and design of classroom assessments. This was facilitated by Engr. Rolly Remitar
who engaged the participants in designing and creating classroom assessments.
